What’s On: Elizabeth Pitcairn of ‘Red Violin’ fame at Bulgaria Hall on January 30

Celebrated US violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn, of “Red Violin” fame, will perform along with the Classic FM Orchestra conducted by Maxim Eshkenazy at Bulgaria Hall on January 30 2015 at 7.30pm.

On the programme, which is part of the Music of America series, is the Bruch Concerto No. 1 in G minor.

Pitcairn has earned a reputation as one of America’s most beloved soloists.

She made her New York debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in 2000 with the New York String Orchestra and she appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Academy of Music.

The signature artist performs in partnership with one of the world’s most legendary instruments, the Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius of 1720, said to have inspired the Academy award-winning film The Red Violin. Pitcairn appears on the 10th anniversary edition of The Red Violin in a special feature documentary interview called The Auction Block.

Her discography includes recordings of Tchaikovsky and Mozart No. 5 Concerti with the Slovenia Radio Television Orchestra and the Bruch Scottish Fantasy and Sarasate Carmen Fantasy with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra of Bulgaria.

Elizabeth Pitcairn performs on the revolutionary Wittner Finetune-Pegs on her legendary instrument, the “Red Mendelssohn” Stradivarius of 1720.

Pitcairn is the President, CEO and Artistic Director of the Luzerne Music Center Festival in the New York State. She teaches at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, California. On her tours, she makes time for school and college visits and presents masterclasses to aspiring young musicians.
